Hi Gang --
well, my wife knows I'm priceless ;-) (does that mean value-less?) so that's
out of the question (gee, I hope that's right) - but just the same
I'll avoid and ghetto's.so I would like to know the mental process of arriving at a offer for whatever
we might be buying. For instance, I bought our '91 300D 2.5T Mercedes about 3 yrs ago when it had 99k miles on it. I looked for a local 300D and found one that had a asking price of $12k. I knew that was too much and mentioned we were leaving in 2 days to go to NJ and pickup a new (to us) '91 300D that I won on eBay for $7800. The eBayer was a dealer and knew I might backout - anyway, we looked at the local car (w/asking price of $12K) and tested it - I told the salesman we were ready to buy and would be buying in the next few days for $7800 + expenses to get us there and back (we're in Va).
I really liked this car but $8K was too much and offered $8k - a comparable amount compared to the one we thought we would be buying. He said, OK and it's been an awesome car - it's like having a new Mercedes - perfect in every detail.
That's how I got to a "offer price" - if I wanted to buy a 08 MB E320 Bluetec (the diesel) I don't know what I would offer. Assuming it has normal mileage = ~24K Mi. - and is in perfect condition I'd look at eBay completed sales and Autotrader, the local paper and dealerships. Like ebay 170436581425 has a "Buy it Now" of $37,900. Should I drop a check for $30K? $25? - How do I define that "write a check for" value?

Is it the price they are advertising at other locations - web, dealers in other cities, FML (assuming it's a Ferrari), etc? Or does one take 20% off the asking price?Sorry if this has been discussed and I missed it. I'm not in the market atthe moment but one of these days my wife will need a replacement.
