I have not been, but wouldn't miss the sky walk that the indian's built a few
years back if I were going. It extends out over the rim and you can look down
through the glass floor over the edge.

Crazy shit!!!

Stewart,
I took the mule ride down (and back up) the canyon. Wife and I were
thinking of staying down at Phantom Ranch, but upon investigation it wasn't
going to be as small a crowd there as we had hoped, so we didn't do that. Now,
there might be an age limit on the mule ride, don't know, but it was very
interesting. I don't think I ever lost the fear of going downhill since I took
it back in the mid 90s. Get a copy of "The Man Who Walked Through Time" and
both of you read it, great book and made me wish I could trek the canyon the
way he did. Written by Colin Fletcher, here are the ISBNs:

ISBN-10: 0679723064
ISBN-13: 978-0679723066

hi all,

i am taking my 11-year old son down to vegas next weekend for chinese new year
and also taking a couple of days to see the grand canyon.

it is shameful of me i know but i have never been to the grand canyon. would
any of you offer some tips to us? for example -

1. go to the north rim? or the south?

2. is it a one-day visit? or should i stay a night?

3. any "must-sees"? like caverns and stuff..

4. nice place to eat? lizardburger?

just fyi, we will be flying in to vegas and renting a car to drive there.
after the visit, we would need to drive back to vegas, return the car, and fly
home.

i know some of you are thinking why i don't go to the web and research - the
web is full of grand canyon stuff - problem is they are mostly commercial sites
that try to steer you to patronize them. so i thought to turn to my friends
here and get some trusted advices.

thanks in advance.
