I think I started this line of thought...

My point here is that when you screw someone down really hard on the price
(which I always try to do), when you throw down a cheque and say take it or
leave it, when you low ball an offer especially when you know the seller
needs to sell....That's when you have to make sure you take the car with
you! A friendly sale or pay asking price and I would not worry to much.

Back a few years I sold a valuable car. I priced it very low for what it
was because I really had to sell it (lost garage place, needed the cash).
Anyway, the guy who bought it came to look at it in a 300,000 POUND car. he
clearly had money. He looked at the car, offered me 10% less, we chatted and
settled on 5%. I was going to throw in with the car a custom cover, a load
of spares, a complete second set of wheels, ect. (he didn't know this)
Since he low balled the price all that stuff went on ebay where it made a few
thousand more. Easy peasy. He got what he paid for but that was all.

That's not to say I don't low ball the price myself but I make sure I know
what I am negotiating for. I originally said if you just throw down a
cheque and say "call me if you bank it" you have to be careful the car doesn't
suddenly go missing a few key bits. I like the idea and it is gutsy but
still, if you don't pay asking the person selling may take it badly and you
don't even know it.

Wow! There's some real crazy running around people loose arenât there?

You know, now that you mention it , I've heard real estate horror stories
of
sellers taking bathroom fixtures, wall to wall carpeting, lightbulbs, etc.
so I guess the stuff you mentioned isn't all that odd.

Thanks for the info -
