Hi Stephen -
My comment about the pilot came from a conversation I had with one of the company helo pilots I met while at a layover in Saudi Arabia. He said a trick he likes is to stumble onto the helo after the passengers are on - then he gets into one of the passenger seats and starts complaining about the pilot being late - after a short period he says, "Hell, I can fly this thing - I've watched them do it a bunch!" - at which point he hops into the pilot seat and fires it up. The passengers are looking at each other nervously as the "pilot" starts jerking the controls causing the helo to bounce up & down.

About this time he smiles and turns to the passengers with a "Gotcha". Of course he never did this when company execs were aboard - even so, now, he'd be fired on the spot.

But it made a good story -- ;-)

I was sitting in the right seat and asummed the guy in the left at the controls was the 'pilot' :-) It was better than any rollercoaster ride I had benn on - remember that was 1968 - rollercosters have come a long way since then. That was when I was a machinest in L.A. It would take a few years b4 I took up flaying and aerobatics.

Is that when the guy at the controls asked if the pilot was aboard yet? ;-)

Take the helicopter ride. It starts out normal but then just after you go
over the edge your cought in a downdraft and the pilot
is adding power & collective to counter it. you loose a couple hundred feet. We did in the choppers like were used in Whirlybirds (a old tv show). After
that I was hanging out the chopper taking pictures like crazy.

hi all,

i am taking my 11-year old son down to vegas next weekend for chinese new
year and also taking a couple of days to see the grand canyon.

it is shameful of me i know but i have never been to the grand canyon.
would any of you offer some tips to us? for example -

1. go to the north rim? or the south?

2. is it a one-day visit? or should i stay a night?

3. any "must-sees"? like caverns and stuff..

4. nice place to eat? lizardburger?

just fyi, we will be flying in to vegas and renting a car to drive there. after the visit, we would need to drive back to vegas, return the car, and
fly home.

i know some of you are thinking why i don't go to the web and research -
the web is full of grand canyon stuff - problem is they are mostly
commercial sites that try to steer you to patronize them. so i thought to
turn to my friends here and get some trusted advices.

thanks in advance.
