For 5 or 6 years running, I was privileged to be a guest of Steve Earle at
the Monterey Historics - In the private grandstand - with tables to gnosh
down your lamb chops and fixins' and ever fine wine, of course, was some
REAL moneyed people. Never knew how much or who they were - but they were
there. Very hospitable, well groomed (uh, not like Michael Andretti's first
wife) and tasteful. Patient - listened well even to prattle and spoke
softly and with purpose. Made me want to copy down what they said.
