Ok. 1st the Impreza, my wife wanted the 'base' model' 4 door hatch back. For
me, I guess the problem is it's just too 'quiet'.
When it's idleing your to look at the tach to make sure the engine is
running. Full time 4 wheel drive is good but I like it better if it did one
thing really well (got it to replace the Metro) and 30mpg is 10 less but
double the Avelanche.Of course I was not a fan of the Metro at first took a
coupe of years. ( I was ready to buy a Golf GTI until we test drove it, the
seats were the most uncomfortable seats I have seat in - I am 5' 9" 145# and
was ready to love the VW.
Porsche yes it is a 951 with factory installed rocker panel skirts. I had previously owened a 1979 928 (bought used 20,000 miles on it from a McDonalds owner - how could I go wrong?, well I found out), it seemed to cost $500 every time I drove it, in 1984 we went to Stuttgart brought home 2 suitcases full of parts and manuals - savings paid for the trip. fixed it and sold it to a friend who went through a couple sets of tires b4 selling it with no problems.
In 86 our daughter was visiting her foreign exchange family in Denmark, so we arranged for European Delivery of the 951.
We crisscrossed Germany at 142 mph (I was told at the factory 5000 rpm until the first service which was done 10 days later (they asked did we sleep in the car - in Europe you have to pay for the first service unlike it was in America. ) During the break in period I was only passed by 2 vehicles the first was VW Golf GTI with 4 college kids in it. They did not fly by but slowly and steadedly went by. The other a Volvo station wagon went by the same way. After the first service nobody passed but on the way to Innsbruke there was a fly yellow Testarossa that I kept up with.
When we were driving back to Frankfort there was a motorcycle drafting us (he could have reached out and touched us at 162 mph (indicated at 6000rpm - was never able to have clear traffic to get 6500rpm in 5th).
We did several laps at the old ring, which I understand rentals and European Delivery taged cars now are not allowed to do today. One bad thing it was shipped into California so it was equiped with California emmisions when we dropped it off at the factory for shipping - even though we live in Kansas.
We put a bra on it for the drive back and tested the 100mph limit of the bra at a 110mph the bra began to vibrate so I never tested the top end :-(.

I'd like to hear about the 944 turbo (951?) and more about the Impreza. Is it "just" the Impreza, or is it an enhanced version, maybe?Tom Reynolds Tulsa, OK ---- Matt Boyd <ferrari308driver [at] gmail.com> wrote:Stephen, In looking at your list of cars I see some comparisons that need to beexpounded upon.
