Hi Guys --
I have a small problem that someone out there may be able to help with.
Normally, I'd look to the lab to answer this question but getting to the
right person is proving difficult. I keep getting salesmen and need a
engineer/scientist. Anyway, I have a customer who manages ~500
exotic/classic vehicles who is asking about doing Oil Analysis to confirm
oil changes are needed or not needed. The vehicles may sit for 2 years at a
time before being moved to display or driven in special events. Then it's
back to being parked.
Are there any people out there with experience managing long term static vehicles and when the oil/filter is changed on them? It seems the right environment of storage like humidity control, lack of sunlight, stable temp., etc. would reduce the aging of the oil and vehicle overall significantly but there must be a point at which the oil needs to be changed even in a vehicle seldom started BTW, the vehicles are not started on a regular basis. They are basically put to rest for a period of time up to 2 years, the batteries are charged to keep them healthy and that's about it.
But the big concern is doing Oil Analysis to confirm damage is not occurring to the engines/transmissions/rear axles. The problem is, the vehicle just sits most of the time. As might be expected, the Lab deals with vehicles that are used often.
I wrote to the Nethercutt Collection hoping they might have some experience in this but have not rec'd a reply yet.
Any ideas? Thanks! LarryT OilAnalysis Time? Looking for Weber Parts or Porsche Posters? www.youroil.net
