Re: We've got it easy (and cheap)!

The funny thing about the ride....and I do love it, be that ride a 250 SWB, a
365 GT 2+2....a 328 a 288 or an F40 , or even the lowly Mondial, is that I love
the ride, I enjoy driving each ..understanding the different qualities and
capabilities of each model ( and I include the Mondial in the enjoyment factor
because if you have ever driven a proper example, then you will forgive it for
being a Mondial )....I have not had enough seat time in anything ( other than a
550) newer than a 355 so I will not comment on these, but I have no doubt that
the word awesome fits in there some where........but I have a sense of doom
when ever I drive a Ferrari if it is yours ( highly unlikely) or if it is mine.
What do I do when I crack a lens who do I call when the check eng. light comes
on late at night 2 hours from my destination etc.

I think that the answer to my non question is that I have changed, ( not
necessarily my interests) but I look at things differently than I used to and I
began to realize that this year at the Cavallino.....I will bore you with a
short story that may get me thrown off the list.....
I was leaving Mar Lago on Sunday, we had had a great brunch a couple of
Bellinis and probably a little wine, but I do not think this either impaired my
judgement or ability or even my thinking....as I was waiting for the valet to
come up with our car (Honda CRV)....a friend of mine Donnie Gould pulled up in
the black 250 TR that had been feted most of the week end. Donnie and I have
know each other for far longer than Donnie is aware, his step father "Tiny"
Gould and I had been friends for too many years and reasons to list.

Donnie asked me if I would like to take the TR back to the Breakers, I am not
sure why, but truly I recognized this as a leap of respect on his part, for
which I am honored...and if any of you who know Donnie you might mention that,
because I may not have shown adequate appreciation for and of the offer.

I declined, my guests were astounded, my wife could have readily taken the
Honda, under the circumstances I just did not feel it appropriate to accept, It
may have just been the timing and the location, but, I think that it had to do
with all the what ifs, those things that I never used to take into
consideration.

Things change, people change, I still love Ferrari as a marque, there will
never be another car to rival them ( at least not in my mind) but maybe that is
because there will never be another man as driven and motivated as was Enzo
Ferrari.

When I bail out of my office in a few minutes, I will probably take the 550 to
meet a friend of mine ( former Ferrari owner) for coffee and BS, swing past a
shop that is finishing up a 330 GTC that I am hoping to trade, check on the
progress of some work on a customers Mondial.....and then come back and try to
figure out the meaning of life with or with out a Ferrari.

I might add that in driving Ferraris for the last 43 years, I have recieved
only one speeding ticket ( in a Ferrari) and it was for a speed just short of
the last ticket that I got while pushing the Honda....go figure
