Re: Magazine Covers

Getting the latest issue, and trying to imagine how close the "artist impression" of all the upcoming cars would compare to the real thing once they arrived, was one of my fave pass times.

I'm just thinking now, of some of those great looking sketches that never made it to production.

Alex - Which cover are you thinking about? Can you describe it?

Does anyone know where there are archives of such cover photos?

Have you tried usedcarmagazine.com?

I've bought some magazines from them and they have cover photos too, albeit small.

It's interesting how some of those really stick in your head. I was
looking at a 993 911 Turbo recently. It was the color I always wanted -
Arena Red, mostly because of an Automobile Magazine cover from 1994 that
had the car on the front with a splashy headline that read "Sell your
soul - Buy this car!" I had that cover on my wall for a long time. I
couldn't find it with a web search but would love to see it again.

What are some other covers that made impressions on people? I remember a
Car and Driver that had a 348 parked nose to nose with a GMC Typhoon
that made a lasting impression. What else?

I heard the article might have made an even more lasting impression.....surprised our 348 haters didn't reveal the ass kicking the Typhoon delivered in this test. ;)

Other covers that were memorable, mostly all comparos:

  • '87 R&T Top Speed shootout - LS knows the issue...959, 288 GTO, Countach, TR on a banked track
  • '97 Motor Trend Ferrari special issue - 288, F40, F50, and 355 at Texas Speedway
  • '90 C&D - Comparo with NSX, 348, Esprit Turbo, 911 C2, ZR1
And probably the best one, which is one of the few mags I'll never sell:

'87 CAR - F40,959, Super Countach, 288 GTO vs. Aston Lagonda - "There will never be another month like this again" was the subheading.

:)
