you wrote <<it's *de Tomaso* Pantera >>
Thanks for that - I should have taken the time to find out the true name but I went with memory and naturally I as wrong ;-)

Yeah, that's one of the best book buys I've made in the past 10 years or o - every time I look through it I find new little treasures of art....

Take care -

Larry, that 50 Years of Art and the Automobile book is one of my
favorites...amazing pics and art within.

Oh, and it's *de Tomaso* Pantera ...sold through Lincoln Mercury dealers by
Ford.

Made in Italy...

Hi Ya'll -
IMO magazine covers have some of thee greatest automotive art
published - R&T was mentioned, but Panorama, Forza, Rosso Ferrari, SCI,
Automobile, 911 & Porsche World, and others.

I think R&T really printed some outstanding "artwork". I bought a
coffee table book called 50 Years of R&T Art" or something like that - and
it featured not only covers but some really beautiful inside layouts and
artwork by artists like Nicholas Watts, Bill Neale, and others. I wish I
was better at remembering their names - that one R&T books brings all of
them together.

The most memorable R&T cover IMHO was a ('71?) Ford Pantera in front of
what I believe was an Italian fountain of building front - it had lions and all kinds of statues in shades of Blue which really complimented the color &
shape of the Pantera.

I also think the Porsche Factory Posters published over the last 60
years have entered the realm of artwork. Valued not just for rarity but
also for content.

I wish Enzo had been more public focused and had concentrated on using
public memorabilia to create market familiarity instead of totally race
oriented - destroying old race cars was one thing I wish he had not done for
instance, issuing Posters to commemorate wins would have created a lot of
public interest and support IMHO and given little boys something to tape to
their bedroom walls (well they were available, just not from the factory),
along with models, books and other stuff to celebrate various wins.

   But that's just me -

Take care -

Alex - Which cover are you thinking about? Can you describe it?

Does anyone know where there are archives of such cover photos?

It's interesting how some of those really stick in your head. I was
looking at a 993 911 Turbo recently. It was the color I always wanted -
Arena Red, mostly because of an Automobile Magazine cover from 1994 that
had the car on the front with a splashy headline that read "Sell your
soul - Buy this car!" I had that cover on my wall for a long time. I
couldn't find it with a web search but would love to see it again.

What are some other covers that made impressions on people? I remember a
Car and Driver that had a 348 parked nose to nose with a GMC Typhoon
that made a lasting impression. What else?

Oh, mind you, I don't love the model or anything. Though I will say
that from my limited seat time (one drive), I think performance-wise it
will show a 328 a clean pair of heals.

Just pointing out that it had some "fun" aspects to it. I really loved
that Autoweek cover...
