I believe the answer is 'yes'.  Louisiana uses a blend of the Napoleonic Code and Spanish law.  Often Louisiana's system is referred to as "Napoleonic Law".

...now that my Cliff Clavin impersonation is over, I think I will sit back on my bar stool.

If you want to split hairs, France's legal system is based on old
Roman law (civil) as opposed to the common law system that is goes
back to 1066. As a result, you don't get the same adversarial (or
sporting) confrontations in the courts there that we're used to.
Pretty hard to advocate your own point when the judge is the one
driving the investigation for the truth.

Interesting premise - 'equality' is bad. Are we buying slaves in this

While we're bashing France, lets show them how much we hate them by
sending
back the Statue of Liberty. We obviously don't need it anymore.

Equality has nothing to do with money. Jeff isn't allowed behaviour or
rights of which 'they' disapprove. Just like smoking is an equality
issue
and abortion and home schooling are an equality issue or putting a
cross
on
a hill is an equality issue. France fought their revolution for
equality
whereas we fought for freedom. Go to France and try to be different, it
don't work. Equality means 'they' decide, not you. Think of equality as
the opposite of freedom, which is where 'you' decide. Big government is
'they' and it comes in all sizes, from neighborhood to federal. 'They'
are
already trying to ban supercars and in California diesel trucks are
part
of
the past. Coming soon near you...

This has nothing to do with 'equality' - the folks in Jeff's
neighborhood
are hardly poor.

Little by little we are loosing out freedoms to equality. Those with
less
demand that everyone with more come down to their level rather than use
the
freedom they have to elevate themselves. Welcome to France.
