My introduction to the Fiat 500 was 1963 when I worked in Naples and 
bought a used VW
which turned out to be one of the largest cars on the road.  Stopped in 
traffic once, I watched
beside me as a fellow in a parked Fiat 500 started his car.  He reached 
into the rear seat area
for a handle and pulled the starter rope! Don't know if all 500s were 
like that or just his engine
modification but he sure didn't have to worry about a dead battery.
