Dale, I like you man, but you're asking for too many things here. A lot of the things you're asking for are things I'm asking for as well.
Hello. Please note I am not advocating VW acquire any part of Ferrari from Fiator Alfa Romeo or Maserati either. I was commenting on the magazine article referenced in another post.I also am not stating an opinion regarding Maserati's recent business history;I just was more interested in Maserati when they made pure racing cars.I occassionally read road tests of the "L" word cars but am not particularly interested in any outside the Countertach (styling) and first 3599 and 5000GTs.I am not familar with their defects or remedies applied to improve them. However no manufacturer or car is perfect.Witness the recent number of issues with fires in 458s.Whether "German" enginerring would have caught the cause of the problem any ear;ier than Ferrari did is unknown.I also do not advocate Ferrari needs German or any other outside of Italy enginerring assistance. What I would like to see is a F1 team with Italian drivers and more return to the Enzo Ferrari philosophy for F1 and street car design.CiaoDale
The golden age of cars are long past, it's sad....I reminisce about them from time to time with LS, and we move on....LOL.
We are in another golden age of sorts with cars I think.....cars that perform like crazy at all price points. 10-15 years ago if I would have known what cars would do now, I would have been really excited! I think we should all be grateful that at least we have that.....we never had daily drivers that can do 0-60 in 4.8 back then. :)
To address your points:
1) Maserati - it'd be great to see a truly independent competitor to the Ferrari brand. Don't know if this is feasible anymore, and another thing.....if the public considers the Maserati marque "below" Ferrari.....then it probably never can happen. In the USA at least....europe and asia are more forgiving of brand snobbery than the US.
I think Maserati should focus on modern versions of their classics.
2) Lamborghini - While not exactly the "Countertach", everything Lambo makes is essentially a more modern version of that. The wedge will never go away, and for better or worse that's ok with me.
There's a concept car that was floating around the L forum that a lot of people loved. I'll try and find it for you...it was essentially a 2011 Countertach and it looked great.
I don't want to drop this new nickname for the Countach. :)
3) Italian drivers for Ferrari F1 - I'd like to date exclusively Italian and latin women, but I can't always control that. I'll settle for attractive and nice. :)
Interesting point here....your boy Enzo was hesitant on hiring Italian drivers because he was concerned of the backlash if any of them got killed....weird logic, but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere. I actually think there might have been liability for his death if he was Italian as opposed to a non Italian.
4) German/Italian marriage - Can be both good and bad. Modern Lambo is a good example of this.....improved tech at the expense of "soul". A lot of that soul blamed on the insistence of AWD.
And then when they finally make a RWD monster, no one buys it...which probably means it's great. :)
That Balboni is gonna be a great value in a few years.
