Sure! You certainly could, but I only heal-toe when my left foot is busy with a clutch pedal (and with a turbo laggy manual shift car like the F40, both feet are busy ALL the time).

In the 355, it just felt awesome on the track (or an off-ramp) having my left foot mashed in hard while my right foot went âZZIIINGAAAA! ZIIIINGAAA! ZIIINGAAAAAAAA!â on the downshifts. Holy mother what an awesome sound, too.

Still, I poo-poo on no manâs approach to slowing a car and matching revs, as long as he enjoys it. That just happens to be the method that I enjoyed the most! J

Counterpoint: Iâm currently in a video chat with a list member who owns a 355F1. When I asked why he doesnât get jump in on this conversation, he replied simply:

âWhat kind of moron has a paddle-shift car and doesnât left foot brake?!?!â

I suppose the answer is âRubens Barichello?â

LOL.

Yeah but wouldn't you be better off just doing the standard heel and toe there with the clutch action missing?

I mean that's what I did with it, but I still thought it was pretty clunky...

SMG:  My brother in law had an SMG M3, the same time I had a 6 spd one.  No question the 6spd was the better car, the SMG was mediocre for spirited driving, and downright awful for daily driving.

The DSG and PDK were both flawless in their shift actions.  If you want a fast shifting slushbox I'd go with either one, they are great.  But of course I didn't and wouldn't unless I lost my left leg.

Try the left-foot-brake right-foot-blip on a 355F1 if you get the chance. Itâs the only F1 Ferrari that REQUIRES you to do it, and I find it a lot of fun to be that âbusyâ while driving a car. J

OK

Well It really takes no time to move your right foot a bit, what you are really doing is keeping the engine in the power band while slowing the car a bit, on my Spec Miata, this was a critical thing to do in a race, if you were in the power band of the motor (starting at 5500 rpm) through a turn you did a heck of a lot better than if you were not, so I'd recommend it for any car that can handle more than it can deliver power.  Cars that have big fat power bands and tend to overpower their own tires, not nearly as effective a technique (like the Vette, left foot braking would buy me a few tenths on some corners where entry speed did not align with gearing, but other than that...).

Never tried left foot braking on a flappy paddle car, drove a 355 F1, and it sucked compared to the 6M, SMG M3, GTI DSG and a Porsche with PDK, but never tried the left foot braking...  All of those systems work but take a significant joy out of driving.

Larry, those potential problems are easily solved by....not touching the brake pedal unless you need it.

The time saved by having to move your right foot over to the brake from the throttle is enormous.

Most drivers also do not use left foot braking due to the loss of physical stability. People will use their left foot on the dead pedal to physically position or stabilize their body under spirited driving. This is usually a result of a combination of a bad seat, inadequate harnesses and poor physical driver conditioning.

Hello Fellippe,

re: Left Foot Braking:

I never liked LF braking â to easy to apply the brakes slightly and either wear the pads quickly or cause lots of heat build-up to boil the Brake Fluid & damage things....   and itâs especially bad on the street where the driver behind never really knows f youâre braking or resting your foot on the brake....

Arenât brake lights becoming common in race cars?

Merry Christmas,

You know, all the complaining about paddle shifts got me thinking that at the very least the owners should learn how to left foot brake...

Anyone on here comfortable with it?
