Here's a photo of a friend's 1988 Testarossa diff carrier unit.  This was the surprise

the mechanic found, when he cracked the case open.

 

They ended up finding a good used carrier to replace it, but the engine major, new clutch and  transmission work (carrier and all the syncros) repair bill has climbed to about $25K.

Not really since some other work could mean tranny work which you cant see and will not know about until  itâs a space shuttle challenger!

Always good to get one that needs a service or some other work and discount the price accordingly. This is, of course, if the car is sound otherwise.

Then you can take the work into the direction you want to rather than what the previous owner did.

At times I think I prefer these situations more than turn key cars because then you sorta guarantee the quality of the car and can sleep well at night.

Most applicable IMO to 348s and 355s.
