Ah shoot Mike - I was hoping the 458 PR team would
say "OH YEAH? YOU TRY TO DO BETTER - - -" to wit I get a free ride in
(the most important part of the goad) someone else's car. heh
heh
A long time ago, at a press function for Winter
Nationals at Pomona Fair Grounds, the organizers brought out a ton of Javelins
(that WAS a while back) for the press to "try out."
Oh mama - nuthin' like having a little strip time
in someone else's car is there?
DOUG
(no calls from Ferrari yet - - - drat)

No you miss the whole point of the 458...
Anyone can
turn those times, its a video game once you have all electronics and launch
control, no skill other than being able to keep the steering wheel straight is
needed (I bet you could use your right foot only to achieve this 1/4 mile
run...)
I ran my Vette out at a local strip last Fall. Its a 6M,
big 305 size rear tires, 430+hp and lb-ft. Its a bit of a beast and not
great for drag strip work (and I honestly suck at launches)... I spent
all not starting in the 13.0's and getting into the upper-mid 12 second range
but it required a lot of concentration and work.
There was a guy who
showed in a CLS63 AMG. He ran 12.7 on his first run 12.7 on the
second 12.7 on his eighth run...
Guy in a Lexus IS-F ran 12.8's all
night long except for 1 run where he ran a 13.4 (because he wanted to try it
without launch control)
To my mind, a waste of time, and honestly the
strip is a bit of fun (this place has $20 run what you brung night)...
There was a guy with a Vette funny car that ran a 8.2 at 172 mph. But of
course he did that 1 time and had to go rebuild the thing for his next
run...
No question the paddle shifters are faster, but better? No
way.

Yeah,
Just gimmie a weekend - and please, a full tank
of gas.
Cheese & crackers all they need is a
better driver - -
