Personally, Rodding-out a 30-year-old brass radiator is not a bad thing. Corrosion is real, it happens, and rust also can collect inside the unit. It is cheap insurance. If you have a split-core unit, you may want to think of a re-core. $450 buys you a re-core, with a better/more-efficient core insert. I will be doing this, along with rodding-out the heater radiators, just as soon as I can get a weekday off.....
BTW, Clyde is smoking something - BOTH of my fans come on when the Radiator Thermo switch kicked-on at 185 F. I 'upgraded' to a VW unit of the same size that turned-on the fans alittle earlier. I'd find one of those, its about $45 cheaper.
