Personally, Rodding-out a 30-year-old brass radiator is not a bad thing.  Corrosion is real, it happens, and rust also can collect inside the unit.  It is cheap insurance.  If you have a split-core unit, you may want to think of a re-core.  $450 buys you a re-core, with a better/more-efficient core insert.  I will be doing this, along with rodding-out the heater radiators, just as soon as I can get a weekday off.....

BTW, Clyde is smoking something - BOTH of my fans come on when the Radiator Thermo switch kicked-on at 185 F.  I 'upgraded' to a VW unit of the same size that turned-on the fans alittle earlier.  I'd find one of those, its about $45 cheaper.

Yes overheating problem at slow speed in town. But my AC never worked in 9 years I have had the car. I  never tried to find out why.So, I thought, if I take the condenser out, which I did and it is REALLY REALLY beat up, I'll have more air going directly to the radiator. Hopefully it will help.

But like I wrote, I cleaned the outside and painted it BEFORE asking about the importance of cleaning the inside. My bad.

Michel -

Why did you take the radiator out in the first place?

Overheating problems?

1981 308 GTSi: I took the radiator out and cleaned the outside  and straightened every single blade. I painted it too.

My question is, is it really worth to have it send to a shop to have the inside cleaned ?

I was told they put it in a tank in special liquid. Now my brand new paint will be ruined. I'll have to paint it again. Not that painful to do, but I just need to know if it's worth having it put in a tank ?

Thank you!
