For a few years now, I’ve been using the “hotwire” trick. My starter works fine, but the solenoid gets heat soaked and when it’s warm, nothing happens, and so turn the key on, put it in neutral, open the bonnet, and press a button in there that closes the circuit manually. Clyde – can you send me your magic wiring schematic? I’d love an solution that doesn’t involve replacing the whole thing. The rear wiring loom was the last piece of hair I needed to pull out to discover the faulty high resistance white ignition wire (8 volts on the starter). It would be nearly impossible to remove enough of the car bits to string a new wire and correctly solve the problem, so a Bosch 101 on the fire wall does the trick. It seems the correct copper alloy was not used in the wiring throughout this period.
