Wow,

You look great in that boot!  I thought the 308 had a complicated mess!!!

Yes, there is, if it's not too late. All the high current circuits cause problems: A/C, fuel pump, fans and fog lights.
Same problem with the Mondial, Testarossa and F40 because they share the same kind of fusebox and connectors.

The main problem is in the connectors. They are not good enough for the high current circuits and fail. It's only a matter of time. When they do, they get hot and melt the circuit boards. They can get so hot that even the solder melts!!!

Take a look here:

This is the work I've done on a friend's Testarossa that had the fuel pump circuits already failing. The fuse connectors were also failing, as it is also usual.

The idea is to "bypass" the connectors at the circuit and wire directly to the correct relay terminal. Also all the high current fuses (6 on the TR) were bypassed and replaced with a modern fuse box. Because the relays remain on the board, it looks original ... you can even keep the 6 fuses in place (even if not used) for the same reason.

That work was done one year ago, no more problems so far!

My 328 already has the pump circuit "removed" from the board and I plan to do the same on the rest of the high current circuits this winter.

Hope that helps!

Rui

During the recent 328 assessment thread someone mentioned the 328 fusebox issue.  A friend of mine has a 1986 328 that is beginning to suffer from the fusebox cold solder failures.  The first time it caused issues with the fog lights which was not a big deal.  Round two of the electrical gremlins involved the fuel pump which led to the car being stranded in the median strip for an hour and a half while waiting for AAA to find someone willing to flatbed a Ferrari.  The mechanic has been able to make several repairs to the fusebox to keep the 328 on the road this season but I fear that they are only temporary fixes.  Is there a long-term fix or replacement for the 328 fusebox?

Most sincerely,

Christian
