That's true - I was thinking more along the lines of if it were going to be sold.  I'm honestly not sure how the Classiche certification would work in a case like this, other than saying "yes it was correct as of xx/xx/2012."  My thought was a change after certification would negate the certification.  To insert our old watch thread here, if I were selling a Rolex and had it verified as real and original by Rolex, but then changed the internals and sold it as a real Rolex using the report from Rolex then the report wouldn't be correct.  It's a bit different as I know you wouldn't try to cheat or deceive anyone.  But the premise is the same.  I guess my point was why take the time and money to have it certified now when you could wait until it was to be sold and put it back to stock then.

Hey, Brian. Chances are I’ll never go back to stock and leave it. And, as modified as it is now, chances are also that right now it’s at the point where it will be easiest to put back to stock now vs. any point in the future (since I have other mods in mind, particularly relating to braking and cooling).

If a purchaser doesn’t trust the Classiche certification, that’s not my problem. Isn’t that the whole point of the certification? They can contact the factory to verify and ask “Hey – is this thing legit?” and the factory can say “Yep! At least as of this date it was.” J

I would say wait on the Classiche until you're going to put it back to stock and leave it.  A purchaser would most likely not trust the Classiche certification if the car is modified after receiving the inspection and certification ...

I’m considering putting all the original pieces back on my F40 (exhaust, cats, steeing wheel, seats, seat belts, brakes, wheels), getting a Classiche certification, and then putting the improvements back on… and maybe more. J

All,

Just to add a couple of lira to the discussion...  I have an acquaintance here (and since it's up to them, not me, to acknowledge this publicly, I'm going to be deliberately vague) with a vintage Ferrari racer.

Said racer suffered a thrown rod, so the engine was rebuilt.  Said racer suffered another thrown rod, so the engine was rebuilt again, but with more investigation as to the cause.  Cause was determined to be an oil tank which did not deliver sufficient quantities of oil to the engine when under high stress.  So, oil tank was redesigned, built, and installed.  Engine runs great.

But!  When car was submitted for Classiche certification, the oil tank was deemed "inappropriate" and forced to change back to original style.  Even though said oil tank was crap and resulted in two engine failures.  [Speaking only for myself here, I find it terribly hard to believe that Ferrari/Classiche actually *KNEW* what style/design of oil tank was originally installed in that car, all those years ago!  But that's just me....]

It was said earlier that some changes are allowed by Classiche.  I won't argue this point, but will also say "perhaps not always...."  Or maybe it just depends on who you are or how deep your pockets are.
