FW: Passing Of Pino

I was glad to know Pino for nearly 30 years.  I met him at Bill Stoessel’s Original Coachworks (“Since 1940”).  I was lucky enough to have Pino restore our 1969 912 which after many years of auto crossing and time trailing now in turn delivered many first in class concours awards.

Other examples of Pino’s work are the exquisite Speedster –

and the painting Steve McQueen’s Le Mans 1970 911S Porsche which sold for $1.375 million at auction last August.

Otis Chandler (past owner of Los Angeles Times) wouldn’t think of having anyone else work on his restorations.  Nor would Sandy Sigoloff.

Other notes followed the sales of any top end car.  An example is

“All body work performed in lead by Angelo Pino of Pino's Auto Body. Mr. Pino has been the choice of celebrities for their collector cars such as Jerry Seinfeld and David Letterman.”

Pino was a craftsman par excellence, a gentleman, a great person to know & always, with a his giant Peruvian smile, a pleasure to visit.

Pino wasn’t that tall but he was a giant of a man.  A person who will be missed.

I’m glad I knew him – I am much better off because of it.

Subject: Passing Of Pino

All,

Steve, who worked for/with Pino, informed me he passed away today.  Most of the Porsche people know Angelo Pino just as "Pino" (bet you may have not known his first name).  Steve will advise me when and where the services will be held.
