Ayep - out of a can - something you may truly trust. What do you get at a
friendly AC store is what they got - should be good shit man, but just like
Fat Freddie in the Fury Freak Bros - ya just may end up with a cut of
oregano in the mix. Yeah, individual cans are good, especially if they show
a bit of rust.

When I re-did my old Golf's AC, I preferred to keep it R-12 rather
than convert.
I went to www.epatest.com/, and paid $20 to get an EPA 609
certification. The EPA 609 cert allows you to legally buy R-12. You
download the manual, then take an open-book test online. It's REALLY hard
to fail, as all the answers are in the manual.
I bought my R-12 on eBay, you'll pay around $20-25 a can. Two or
three cans will set you back $50-60 or so. You're supposed to email the
seller a copy of your EPA 609 cert, but not all sellers require you do
that. I recharge my own systems, don't know if you could show up at an AC
shop with cans of R-12 and have them do the recharge.
