Re: Non-Ferrari cars and some V12 questions...

A treat for the E type fans among us -- the newest R&T has a good column by Peter Egan comparing the new XK8 to a '65 XKE.  I have never driven a XK8 so it sounds strange to me - but he has owned and restored a couple of XKEs so I guess he's accurate when he says the XK8 is a new XKE!

I have driven a XKE V12 and maybe someone can answer a question - is the Jag V12 comparable to a Ferrari V12?  I suspect the different crank plane that makes the Ferrari music so sweet is non-existent on the Jag - the one I drove was a bright yellow convertible '73 which I drove to work with the owner.  I remember pushing the pedal down and letting the revs build - and build and build - it seems like the tacho was moving in slow motion!  But the scenery soon began to blur!!

Does a Ferrari V12 rev quickly or is it more like a Jag V12?  This will be hard to answer, but how does the Ferrari engine feel when it's being run up and down through the gears?

Ken,

Hahahaha....  Yes, you are of course correct.  About it all.  But I especially like your "trouble-maker" description of Rick!  :-)  Rick's a great guy - even if he does cause trouble!  He has great taste in cars, though I personally would have chosen an earlier E-Type....  ;-)

And speaking of Rick and all his cars, though I'll never catch up, I am wondering - how many cars do I need before I can say I have a "collection"???

p.s. - yes, always something really special about a Ferrari!  One of the reasons I like them so much.

A British car is only as good as the maintenance it is given.

Final word - P-cars v. Ferrari.  I like 'em both, but for different reasons.  One of my best friends from college bought a Cayman S (aka "Coxster", according to Top Gear's Clarkson!), which really is a GREAT car!

       George,

I agree with your post even though you were very generous to Lucas!

I'd add  that trouble-maker Rick Lindsey :)  the guy that started this thread,  owns a Cayman and likes it very much.  Of course there hasn't been a car made  Rick doesn't like !!!

Old British cars are fun, Porsches are great, but there's something about a Ferrari!
