So much crying on FList...are some of you guys getting old?
Ha!
After stern warnings from Flist I bought a carbed car in 1998. It didn't take me long to realize:
THERE IS NOTHING REQUIRED AS FAR AS SPECIAL CARE AT ALL!!!
GASP!
Carbed cars are great...I've had a bunch continuously since 1998. They start every time...no electronics to troubleshoot, no warm up circuits and crusty electrical connections. Just gas, spark, explosions and ridic throttle response.
If you drive them at least once a month, use Sta Bil and let them warm up...it's no big deal.
Why all the tears??
FI has it's place on daily drivers and other uses but why on Earth would anyone want a Countach with FI? That's pure atrocity...
A downdraft Countach with six Webers will make your loins overheat. The noise is incredible.
If you guys are too busy, lazy, old to wait for a fuel pump or to prime the carbs, just admit it!
Please spare us the complaining.
Better yet, bring an adult diaper and earplugs and drive one of my carbed cars when you're in the DC area next.
We can make it a party.

Meh - carbs. Don't have time for 'um. Today's ethanol ain't your daddy's gasoline....one stuck carb float-bowl WILL ruin your life. Oh, you have between 4 and six of the buggers to worry about, atop your $35,000-$150,000 engine made of Unobtainium?
Give me a 82 Countach S that's been converted to Electromotive so I can jump-in, turn-the-key, and GO-GO-GO-GO, not sit there and dicker with the choke and fuel-pump spin up, and pray to Jesus that something isn't 'right' in the engine-bay behind me and my car won't turn into a flaming Bomb/BBQ with me inside it......if I have to live with that fear every time I go to start/drive a car, I need a better mechanic or I need a better car. Most go with the better car.
Don't get me wrong, I love the 308 GT/4 - back-seats, a trunk, excellent weight distribution, rigid chassis, nice cockpit. Bertone styling ain't for everybody, but this works...I agree about the Dino badging, the Euro Series 1 trim is better...I've seen a GT/4 on the track with a QV engine dropped in the engine bay, and that car was FLYING. I'd love to stuff a worked 3.2L engine from a 328 into a car like this...it WILL fit without mods...the boys at Symbolic were using them as coffee tables for awhile, I know somebody who has one in a barn locally.....aaahhh! Now we be jammin'.

How often do you drive this car, and what is the significance of those drives?

And owning both types, there is a lot to be said with just turning the key and having the engine run versus waiting for the fuel pump to slow in ticking, adjusting the choke, pumping the gas pedal a few times, saying a couple of prayers in Italian, followed by swearing in Italian to get the 365 up and running. And you can pretty much forget it if the amient temperature is lower than 35F...

Nice description FG. Well done. I hope you sent cLYdE a personalized and signed copy. Ah ah ahOnly problem I find now with our 308 GTS which is in the restoration process are parts are Ferrari 288 GTO expensive and one would do better looking for replacement rubber parts in a convent in France than we can any place else. Subject: Re: [Ferrari] 308GT4, was something...I agree that the 308 GT/4 has gotten better with age and is a very cool car. While it is very, very similar to a 308 GTB, there are enough differences to make it special in its own way. It's basically what a 308 would look like if Lamborghini created it....just look at the Urracco, and the taillights of the Jalpa.A '73 series I, standard ("euro") spec would be my pick, modded with 16" QV wheels and modern rubber. I'd also prefer it if it had Dino badges as opposed to Ferrari. Don't believe you see too many of those around. This car would be more interesting to me than just about all other 308s except the carbureted euro GTBs, and maybe even the GTS as well. GTBi/GTSi, and any 308 with US bumpers is too much for me to handle. Some of the GT4s have the same problem of course.Carburetors and cars old enough not to need catalytic converters.....life is good. :)FGOn Fri, Feb 7, 2014 at 9:08 AM, Rick Lindsay <richardolindsay [at] gmail.com> wrote:Since we're sharing opinions, I'll toss mine in: I think the 308GT4 is absolutely beautiful. Yes, Bertone's designs are more space-age angular than Pininfarina's curves, but no less visionary. What I can claim is that I feel no natural attraction to most Zigato designs, and some I find to be butt-ugly!clYde finds anything with a carburetor to be a firey death trap. That may play a role in his dislike ofvthe GT4. He hates my 308GTB for that very reason. But there is nothing on Earth that sounds better than a bank of Webers. And I have to admit that my all time favorite auto-music comes from the six dual choke Webers on a first generation Countach. My 308GTB comes in second. And I bet Rob's GT4 ties with it for that position. You know what opinions are like, and mine is no different. Such is life.-rick
