old cars and the like

Listen I am a A&P mechanic and an airline pilot (yea I know big deal) and I have been around things mechanical since 1965 when I started working on airplanes at Aviation HS when I was 15.

I also flew century series fighters RF-101 and the follow ups F-4 and F-15’s so I have seen a broad spectrum of mechanical issues across both fields.

And I will match my mechanical skills and knowledge base with anyone.

So that gives me just a little credence when it comes to things mechanical ,maybe.

Given that old cars like old airplanes did not have the quality control when it comes to metals and manufacturing process that really started around the late 80’s you will eventually  experience  a catastrophic failure of a primary component that will end your day, and maybe your life.

Find me any 60’s car domestic or foreign that has anywhere close to what my 512 TR has on it (98k) without a major rebuild, it doesn’t exist!

Yea Lash sorry buddy but the cars made back then were shit boxes in pretty packages.

It is what it is, and yes they caught fire a lot too!

Now there are some on this list that are as old as me that can remember their dads had cars with 3 speeds on the column and the starter switch on the floor.

Ask them if don’t believe me, I even remember 6 volt cars before they went to 12 volt systems.

Oils and bearings, coolants switches and the like did not have staying power that we now enjoy in your basic Honda Fit.

Don’t even mention starters, batteries, brakes, hoses, belts and tires!

So you buy an old car knowing that it will break hard one day, with no parts available.

So buy a CNC machine ( that’s computerized numerically controlled for the uniformed) and learn how to make stuff.

For me, give me great A/C and greater reliability, with OBD 2 or 3 on it.

Gotta go fly.
