IIRC, private shops replicated the slant nose for a while - some in metal and some in FRP.    Eventually the factory got into the act and started offering slant nose conversions through the "Special Wish" program.   Rumor had it the factory was not happy with the quality of some of the conversions while some said they wanted some of the profit these conversions produced.  :-)        When profit is involved, Porsche will find a way...

The slantnose cars hold value better than any other 911 turbo out there though Clyde.  Even today.  Rarity does have value.

Problem is that those with that type of money have always had that type of money therefore they are buying it too buy it
They haven't a clue why
The best example of this in the car world was when Porsche came out with the slope nose cars
It's was a horrible design
But every asshole though it was the P car to buy
Prices went crazy
There were even after market kits
Bottoming is that the car market like the art market is like a hot bath
After your in it for a while it's not so hot anymore!

Ayup… short story.. at the 1985 FNA national meet in Corning, NY they setup a flea market.  One of the vendors (could be someone on this list) was selling glass Ferrari paperweights.  A gentleman next to me (again could have been someone on this list) picked up one, admired it and asked “How much?”  The response was $400.  He said “Great!”  I’ll take two.”  Peeled off eight hundreds from the roll he was carrying and went on to the next vendor.  Never batted an eye.

Granted not Warren Buffet money, but to me at the time, it was close!

Oh yeah.. at that event I was also offered a 288 GTO for $90K.. this was just before the big spike when Enzo was dying.  Of course, I didn’t have $90K and had no idea prices for that car would jump to seven figures in several years….

The problem is "that much money" isn't that much money to the people with the discretionary income to buy those types of items.

But *when* was the 57M sale?  Regardless, I'm going to put my guess at 47M.
