I think the 308 uses the same style thermoswitch as my VWs.You are correct, the two terminals on the switch are only connected together electrically when the coolant temp is above the rated temp for the switch. If you pull the two wires off the thermoswitch, turn the ignition on (I'm assuming the fans only work with the ignition on) and touch the two wires together (or use a jumper wire), the fans should come on. If they do, that means the rest of the fan wiring and fuses is OK and the switch is toast. If the fans do not come on, then that implies that some part of the wiring to the fans or the fans themselves are faulty.
