Erik notes – “Look at what they go for after 5 years, you can't give them away...”

Picture this – 1956 and I had to do a term paper on a European country.  Because my linage is Swedish – I chose warmer climes – Italy.  To fluff the report I scrounged magazines and I can still see in my mind’s eye some famous race driver sitting on the ground cross legged with his leather gloves and shorty helmet (cardboard?)  in front of his red Maserati with its gapping oval mouth and Poseidon’s trident Smack in the center.

And my first sports car race at Santa Barbara in 1961 watching the white and blue Birdcage Maserati.  Ohhh wee.  How wonderful.

Flash forward to Modena, 1999, there was a Maserati opening down the street from Service Motor, the Ferrari store, with champagne and biscuits and fluffy girls.  My my.  But the grill – oh the grill – oval? Yes.  A trident in the center?  Yes.  BUT WHAT WAS THAT THING HANGING DOWN FROM THE UPPER ARC?  From a distance, it smacked of a uvula?  Well, I am no designer but that little dip does nothing for me.  That’s just me.  I do like the rest of the car tho – actually would consider one if they just didn’t brick so bad.  Oh well, at my age, it could be the last car I ever buy so who cares.  Ah ah ah.
