GrandTorismoOlmegattoClyde RomeroIn Victory you deserve ChampagneIn Defeat You Need It!If you obey all the rulesYou miss all the fun !It was cool what GTO stood for......its literal translation, and of course how it sounded as a moniker in English. Surely that's what made Pontiac copy it.But holding Ferrari to have to make a "homologated grand tourer" in order to slap on a GTO in the modern day is a bit much IMHO considering we'll probably never ever see another homologated racing series again. Maybe if Ferrari created a special car just for ALMS or LeMans and then sold it on the street it could work.....but that doesn't seem likely. It's just a new era.Grateful we have Pagani around.FGOn Thu, Oct 9, 2014 at 8:34 PM, Rick Moseley <ramosel [at] pacbell.net> wrote:I think you answered your own question...The original 250 GTO was a purpose built car to go racing and did so successfullyThe 288 GTO was a purpose built car to go racing... but the FIA realized Group B was to be deadly and it's reason for coming to life was disestablished before it was ever driven in anger. The 599 GTO is exactly what you said it is... an existing road car that was put into wolf's clothing and deemed a GTO by the marketing types.I agree with you. It's one heck of a car!!! but it should have had a Speciali or Scuderia or etc. name given to it.RickCan I ask why the 599 isn't deserving of the GTO moniker?Nice updated looks to make the 599 an aggressive looking but still refined GT. Dominant performance both power and handling. I'm completely overlooking the semi-auto transmission which is always somewhat of a hangup for me._________________________________________________________________
