Hey Gang,

We all know that old fuel plumbing is the cause of many engine fires. And we all know that Clyde hates carburetors.  How could we not?!

Carburetted systems operate at 2-3psi but are 'open' systems. That is, float bowls are vented. Fuel injected systems are closed systems, eliminating the flooded float chamber problem, BUT they operate at really high pressure! That brings another set of potential problems. Any way one looks at it, fuel is dangerous.

Here is a strong lesson in why we should change all fuel plumbing to modern alcohol safe hose.

Those are the Dellorto DHLA45 carburetors from a friend's Esprit! They are rebuildable and I am doing so.

So the message is, independent of whether we have Webers, Dellortos or Bosch aspirated engines; Change the fuel hoses and clamps. Merry Christmas.  :-P
