For the new turbo GTB, Ferrari went back to it's displacement per cylinder designation. Like the 250, 275, 330, etc...

 

488cc x 8 = 3,904 cc.   (The engine is actual 3,902 cc)

 

Since the new car is replacing the 458 Italia (4.5 liter), I sure they wanted to use a larger number designation for marketing,  rather than a smaller one (398 GTB)

I must be missing something. I thought it was 4.8L, 8 cyl.

Same with 458. I thought it was 4.5L, 8 cyl. I never really checked. I took it for granted that's what it was. Like the 308, 328, 348, etc.

So, why 458 and 488 ?
