Rick – What are your thoughts on the Alfa Romeo 4C? Seems like that is a pretty good fit to your spec? -- Charles From: Ferrari [mailto:ferrari-bounces+charles=carolina-sound.com [at] ferrarilist.com]
On Behalf Of Charles Perry I don’t know how much you could take out and still sell it here. If you look at like a 430 Scuderia or a 458 Speciale, those are well stripped of extraneous
interior parts. You can’t simplify the motor management much and still be able to meet multi-market emissions requirements and driveability targets. In the US, the Feds mandate that you can’t get away without ABS, stability control, tire pressure sensing and
airbags now. Aside from deleting the air conditioning, radio/nav, & power windows/seats I don’t think you can simplify much more. If it were a track-only car you could ditch some of the mandated equipment, but then you just have a 458GT. Maybe you should seek out an Ariel Atom or KTM X-Bow or a modernized Lotus 7. I think that’s as close as you’ll ever get to the simplicity level you want. Now
if we could just get Pininfarina to skin one of those… J From: Ferrari [mailto:ferrari-bounces+charles=carolina-sound.com [at] ferrarilist.com]
On Behalf Of Rick Lindsay Hello Friends, New Ferraris are kinda like new Lambos. They look like SciFi spaceships and they have more technology than an iPhone! That's fine for the people who must have the most outlandish cars. But what about most of us? What if Ferrari developed a simpler car? Still powerful, still great handling and still reeking of Pininfarina, but simple. No, not a 'starter Ferrari' or an economy model. Just a cheaper, simple car reflecting back on earlier designs.
