And then there is “Taxable” HP. A fee is calculated and paid to the Gov based on the HP rating. The higher the horse power the more damage to roads – so pay up to fix the roads you’ll be destroying. THE reason that old time Jaguar’s (read most British cars) bore is tiny and the stroke is long. But not so for all Euro countries. The Brits use only the diameter of the piston bore in their math. Other countries use the displacement times number of cylinders or other methods. France for instance named their car after the horsepower – ie: the Citroen 2CV. Ayep – that’s right Gov – only 2 horse power (De Chevaux – [I think]). The cars name says it all – here’s your 5 Francs. Heh heh And then there’s DIN and SAE HP. And no matter – engines just work on “stuff in and stuff out.” An air pump. And the great equalizer, is ambient air pressure which is something like 14 pounds plus per squre inch - - - AT SEA LEVEL.
