If the TR thermostats do not open fully, the coolant is recirculated in the 
engine instead of being sent to the radiator. 
The disc at the bottom of the thermostat closes off the re circulation passages 
in the thermostat housing on the firewall. 
Replace both with factory thermostats. 
They are not inexpensive but TR cylinder heads lose their temper if overheated 
too many times, then the heads will not maintain proper torque because the 
aluminum is too soft and deforms, then the motor will not stay water tight
