Well there you go. More proof that nothing is ever NORMAL with Ferrari.

If it were my car, regardless of what was standard, I’d opt to make both fans come on when the thermo switch turns on.

And Clyde, don’t forget how much hotter the air into the radiator because when you turn on the a/c because of the heat from the condenser…..so I’m not entirely convinced that turning on the a/c will help cooling the engine.

Here is the way US cars works

One fan one when temp gets to 185

Other fan fan comes on when A/C is turned on regardless if the temp is at 185 or not

This is the standard wiring

This is why I tell everyone if your car starts to over heat I would turn on the A/C which turns on the other fan

In defeat you need it!

Doesn’t make sense any other way. Both fans come on when the thermostat on the radiator calls for cooling.

I have my AC empty as I never used it and easier to take everything apart without draining it and both my fans come on when hot,

no mods on my car  early GT4.

I don’t believe you’re correct.

However, I’ve never understood why the compressor doesn’t bring on both fans….it could only help!

Ok

How hot did the car get temp wise?

If it went to 225 or higher you might have serious issues down the road

Otherwise

One fan comes on when the thermo switch hits 185

The other fan only comes on when you switch on the A/C

By pass the circuit and put 12 volts to the fans

If they spin most likely it a blown fuse

In early 3 series cars you should change clean the fuse box yearly

I use to put that stud that comes in the box which absorbs moisture in my fuse box

And ECU compartment as well

Also rotate your relays yearly

Hi Guys

After a spirited drive last weekend, my 85 308 developed a serious overheat problem.  After stopping, I found the fans are not running.  Thus, this weekend will be troubleshooting…

Can you verify –

1)      If I short the thermostat connector pins, should the fans turn on?

2)      Do both fans always operate, or is there a mode where only 1 fan would turn on?

3)      There are no other components in the fan circuit, just the fans/thermostat connection/elect relay – correct?

4)      Which relay is the fan relay?

Thanks,

Mark
