Was leading a flight of 3 out of Ubon with full bomb
loads at night in '69 trying to hit a target near the Birdshead.
Invert had moved Cherry, Peach and Lemon anchors all close together because of
big badass thunderstorms. When I checked in with Cherry anchor, they were
all arguing about which altitude each should be at. When we finally sorted
it out, I got on Cherry and got my gas. Cherry was banking back and forth
to avoid the bumpers, so, we got some good formation flying while refueling at
max gross weight. I got my gas and just as I backed out to the
pre-contact position Cherry led us into one big thunderstorm. I
called lost wingman, rolled inverted and took her down about 5k. When we
finally got through that damn thing we got quickly back on Cherry and I said
"give us our GD gas and watch where the F you are going! Subsequent
mission was even worse, but, that's another story.
Luke
I agree
It's still hard to beat an afterburner takeoff though
And a trip to a tanker

Agreed.
Like my dad, I'm finding in retirement I'm busier. Dealing with a life
changing injury, at the end of most days I'm certainly more tired and always
more dirty. But I'm doing the things I want to do and the only noise I
hear on the mountain is the noise I make... and quite often that's a tractor
or an excavator!! Not quite the thrill of a zone 5 cat launch in a
Tomcat or hitting turn 1 at Sears in a car with real aero, but there is a
certain satisfaction to a full bucket... of MY dirt.
Be careful, retirement isn't all that it's
cracked up to be. I had 2 great careers, loved what I
did and worked to age 78. Then I ran the Hill country FCA tor 2
years. Engagement in important work that benefits society is very
fulfilling. Beats sitting on your ass!
This is what I'm looking forward to.
I turned 40 earlier this year.
Realistically, I'm planning to
retire @ 60, but I'll try to "pull the pin" sooner than that.
As much as I enjoy what I do,
as the years pass, I find it gets in the way in what I really want to do -
and that is to play with the Ferrari! Although I realize this whole career
thing is what pays to keep that hobby going (and it's been a good, lucrative
one)!
I consider myself fortunate
though to have gotten into this at an early age (bought the 308 @ age 24
when they were "worthless") and appreciate all the years of joy and
sometimes frustration that it provides (even to this day!).
Could be worse...
Okay, back to Rob's electrical gremlins.
Peter
A Big thing in retirement is to take every silly little thing as a fun
project. This is a fun part of life which requires using everything
you have stuffed into your brain to date to resolve unimportant issues and
to get satisfaction and enjoyment from the time spend doing so. Like
your backup light, it’s really no big deal but it can be a fun exercise to
make it work they way you want it to. AND that doesn’t have to be the
way the factory or someone else wants it...you will make it work to satisfy
your needs and desires. Carry that attitude throughout each day and
ENJOY.

Subject: Re: [Ferrari] GT4 Reverse lights was PCB Fuse
Blocks
From what I was told all the original parts were used in the car
refurbished or replaced with new old stock parts. the wiring harness was
removed taken apart all the wires checked for continuity and then it was
reassembled and reinstalled.
there was an awful lot of work done
on this car, but just all sorts of little bugs and details that I need to
either run down and fix! It took me 25 years to get a car built in Italy to
start working perfectly, so it makes sense it would be even harder to get a
car that was completely disassembled and put back together again dialed in!
I'm also having problems with the tachometer and speedometer jerking wildly
and then when the car is running well and warmed up they settle down to be
normal? Several people have told me that in a complete restoration it is a
last 5% of issues that are the hardest to settle and the most expensive I
think that's where I am at.
I am retiring in a month so
hypothetically but I'm not playing in the band or traveling I can spend most
my time trying to fix stuff!! Ha

It's possible they could have used a 308 wiring harness for a U.S.
car... My guess. I have severe doubts he would have had someone build each
wire and loom it into a harness. Time is money. A LOT easier to buy an OEM
NOS harness (I've seen 'em on ebay).
If you get a chance Rob, open your glove box door and get a good
close-up picture of the fuse boxes, especially the right-hand box and post
it here. Paul and the rest of us can take a look and see what wires are
hooked up. As he mentioned, the one wire (for the reverse lights) could be
misplaced and this will be seen.

This was the new 308 GT 41974 European model it was completely
disassembled and rebuilt from the ground up for me I thought I would have
a car that would be perfect but is turning into a nightmare that's a
standard fuse box and relay panel in the picture was taken when or where
were rewiring the car
I will check with that release
handle is for..,
Thanks for all your help as you
know the electronics is the weakest part of my limited knowledge of
cars!

Nor am I able to make any
sense. Stared at it for 1/2 hour and still cannot place it into
much more than a test fixture or engine stand or ??? Thoughts -- Front Bonnet at top of photo Fiberglass cockpit - steering column stub at center left Gearshift tunnel but no gearshift Freshly black
painted throttle pedal Pull cable on the right is for a
bonnet latch release but on wrong side unless it's for rear
bonnet. Relay panel legend doesn't match inserted
relays I tried to match the fuse panel wire colors against
various cars and it looks generic 308 even 512 Was this
photo with another photo(s) which can provide additional clues? As Arte Johnson used to say ... "sehr interesting" paul
I have been so busy not had a chance to even look at the car but just found this
photo which I can make no sense of….
