They are to align the caliper with the disk. I would not advise it.

Awhile back I removed the rear brake calipers. Funny thing – there are little black 2.5 cm washers of varying thicknesses: .3mm to 1mm. Part # 108918
OK – what are they used for? Can I run without them? If not what is the assembly objective?
