Doug,

Due to the somewhat wayward parallelism of the Ferrari caliper mounting flanges with regards to the brake discs, these small shims are to ensure the caliper and disk are parallel.  They also ensure the caliper is centered with regards the disc.  The set up is surprisingly sensitive.  A vehicle that pulls left or right is often the result of not setting this up correctly.  Oh, and they are on the front too.

Funny, as you'll know, the same caliper is used on the G series Carrera (But without the integral handbrake mechanism) and the 914 (With the handbrake mechanism) however the machinists at Zuffenhausen seemed to work at a tighter tolerance, the Porsches don't need them.

Regards,

Carl.

Subject: [Ferrari] 1978 GTS Rear Brake Caliper question

Hello

Awhile back I removed the rear brake calipers.  Funny thing – there are little black 2.5 cm washers of varying thicknesses:  .3mm to 1mm.  Part # 108918

OK – what are they used for?  Can I run without them?  If not what is the assembly objective?

Thanks to all the trivia guru’s out there

DOUG
