A friend of mine ran into issues with his R8 .. nightmare.

That's a V-10 R8 in case you can't tell. 18k miles. Audi USA and Audi engineers in Europe cannot figure out what went wrong with it. After owning it for about 30 days it decided to throw an error that they can't explain. Audi requires >$8,100 just to take it apart and to attempt to figure out what the error is. Note that this does $8k does not guarantee that they will find out what the issue is. It also does not cover any repairs, parts or re-assembly.

Audi keeps telling me that this is "our flagship car and we will figure it out", but I am footing the bill for them to learn how to disassemble and diagnose their own car. They have had VTCs with the engineers in Germany but cannot explain the issue between the local certified R8 tech, the regional R8 tech or the ones in Germany. They literally told me that they are recording the disassembly because they want to make sure they know how to re-assemble it later. Which, you may recall, is not included in the $8k diagnosis charge.

Good news. The Audi of America HQ dealer just called to tell me that a bolt deep inside the engine (holding a "spur gear") broke off. Apparently it was damaged quite a while (and has been doing damage the entire time), and finally broke off. On the upside, their estimate is $66,500.00 to repair it, and they can be done roughly 30 days after a new engine gets shipped to the USA. Nobody at Audi has ever seen it before, and they can't explain it, so it's super interesting and exciting for all involved.

Although, the guys who don't play the OEM game are having great luck with going to aftermarket shocks, springs, and modules to kill the suspension electronic errors.

A couple I know actually prefer the handling at track events over the mag shocks.

Always had check engine lights on

If you have to have one 

Get a used one and try to get a factory warranty 

Good luck but I would rather go to Vegas and find a hooker with the money
