What ever happened to the “right to repair law?” https://www.autonews.com/article/20140125/RETAIL05/301279936/automakers-agree-to-right-to-repair-dealSent from my iPhone On 5/27/19, Peter Rychel <dino308gt4 [at] hotmail.com> wrote:Is there anywhere on the darkweb that one can get a dondle, or other
hardware and/or software that’ll crack the proprietary codes?
A "dongle" has nothing to do with the proprietary codes. It's simplya security device to (attempt) one from using pirated software. The codes are easily readable. But their meaning is what isproprietary. For example, a cheap generic OBD scanner showed that myMaserati was throwing a Body code - don't recall off the top of myhead, but it was something like "B0321". So the code is readable. But what does it mean? *That's* the proprietary part. Could not finda reference anywhere that explained what the code meant or what to doabout it.The Leonardo system isn't a total solution. For example, it will noteven reset the Change Oil Light on my Maserati. Supposedly only anSD2/3 would do it. But someone on the Maserati forum discovered acheap Chinese tool called an "OBDStar X-200" that will reset theChange Oil Light. It will reset other dash warning lights as well, but I haven't had to experiment with any of the other functions. Ithink someone reset an airbag warning light that came on aftertemporarily disconnecting an airbag. And, BTW, the Foxwell 510 has been superseded by the 520. The 520seems to be the only consumer level tool that will reset the Maserati"TPMS system malfunction" warning message. It will also read/reset ahandfull of other pesky proprietary codes - but certainly not all ofthem. And when I say "read", I mean explain what they are. BTW, ifyou are interested in the Foxwell 520 - or the older 510 - be awarethat it ships with software for just one make of vehicle. They charge$60 for each additional manufacturer's software. (Although theMaserati software on my 520 has support for the Alfa 8C. Gofigure.....) For a Chinese company, their customer support is decent, quickly answering my questions about software compatibility. Best(cheapest) sources are the Foxwell stores on Ebay or Amazon. Also in my arsenal is the Autel MaxiTPMS tool to activate the finickyTPMS wheel sensors that seem to be proprietary to some Maseratis andFerraris. So 3 electronic gadgets to keep my Quattroporte happy. And I'mthinking of adding the Autel MX808 just for good measure.Hans.
I’ve got a Snap-On code reader (Ethos
Edge<https://store.snapon.com/ETHOS-174-Edge-Scan-Tool-ETHOS-EDGE-Scan-Tool-P928828.aspx>),
which comes loaded to scan all domestic and Euro cars... Sadly, not
Ferrari/Lambo/Maserati. Although it’ll read Fiat and Alfa Romeo (with the
recent update, to 2019). All the info is stored in a micro SD card. I
haven’t used it on my Fiat yet, but have fixed many coworkers vehicles. I
got it when it first came out and my Snap-On guy had them at a blowout
introductory price (almost at wholesale).
I think the only aftermarket system is the Leonardo scanner for these
exotics (still, at five figures $, if I remember correctly).
This is one of the reasons why I wouldn’t want to own a “modern” Ferrari...
If my scanner could read them, then I’d consider it.

Nope.
But when you said you needed to bring it in to clear it, I figured it threw
one of the propriety codes. Ferrari mechanics need to eat, too.

Well it finally happened
Knew it would, got a master caution light( sorry guys to you it’s a check
engine light, still to much aviator in me) yesterday
Nothing I could figure out
Will take it in get it cleared and move on
Seat stopped working again
Then it did !
Bought this
http://www.diagnostic-world.com/pages/ferrari_code_readers__diagnostic_scan_reset_amp_tools_194245-z=582963&p=121451.cfm#content_item_121451
You know the Brits they say it works ( not so sure about BREXIT though) so I
want to see it for myself
When I get it I will report back on it, since it looks as if the 575 is a
moody beast when it comes to check engine lights
And if it is as advertised I will do what I’ve done with the shim kit
If a lister needs it they pay shipping both ways
I was thinking if Ferrari would have put just a little more into the
workmanship of the hoses and electrical system none of this stuff would
happen.
I mean look at Japanese cars and German cars, it’s seems as if the Italians
just under engineer the cars or just source parts from horrible suppliers
But in retrospect they know that they will sell everything they make so why
bother in making it durable, it’s a win for the dealership service
department
The new NSX has everything yet they can’t sell them, they are deeply
discounted with a finance plan to die for! My friend just bought one.
And you know that car will always work with no issues whatsoever
Well guys as I’ve always said it is what it is, will report back on the
check engine light issue. Not worried, I know it’s just a light and the car
runs fine.
Too my fellow warriors out the there, have a safe Memorial Day
Fly fast N’ Check 6
Push it up lead !
And if you see a former or active duty service member, thank them for what
they do.
