I've wondered the same thing myself. It seems to possible to get stuff for domestic cars, but the Italians seem to ignore it.

A "dongle" has nothing to do with the proprietary codes. It's simply
a security device to (attempt) one from using pirated software.
The codes are easily readable. But their meaning is what is
proprietary. For example, a cheap generic OBD scanner showed that my
Maserati was throwing a Body code - don't recall off the top of my
head, but it was something like "B0321". So the code is readable.
But what does it mean? *That's* the proprietary part. Could not find
a reference anywhere that explained what the code meant or what to do
about it.
The Leonardo system isn't a total solution. For example, it will not
even reset the Change Oil Light on my Maserati. Supposedly only an
SD2/3 would do it. But someone on the Maserati forum discovered a
cheap Chinese tool called an "OBDStar X-200" that will reset the
Change Oil Light. It will reset other dash warning lights as well,
but I haven't had to experiment with any of the other functions. I
think someone reset an airbag warning light that came on after
temporarily disconnecting an airbag.
And, BTW, the Foxwell 510 has been superseded by the 520. The 520
seems to be the only consumer level tool that will reset the Maserati
"TPMS system malfunction" warning message. It will also read/reset a
handfull of other pesky proprietary codes - but certainly not all of
them. And when I say "read", I mean explain what they are. BTW, if
you are interested in the Foxwell 520 - or the older 510 - be aware
that it ships with software for just one make of vehicle. They charge
$60 for each additional manufacturer's software. (Although the
Maserati software on my 520 has support for the Alfa 8C. Go
figure.....) For a Chinese company, their customer support is decent,
quickly answering my questions about software compatibility. Best
(cheapest) sources are the Foxwell stores on Ebay or Amazon.
Also in my arsenal is the Autel MaxiTPMS tool to activate the finicky
TPMS wheel sensors that seem to be proprietary to some Maseratis and
Ferraris.
So 3 electronic gadgets to keep my Quattroporte happy. And I'm
thinking of adding the Autel MX808 just for good measure.
Hans.I’ve got a Snap-On code reader (EthosEdge<https://store.snapon.com/ETHOS-174-Edge-Scan-Tool-ETHOS-EDGE-Scan-Tool-P928828.aspx>),which comes loaded to scan all domestic and Euro cars... Sadly, notFerrari/Lambo/Maserati. Although it’ll read Fiat and Alfa Romeo (with therecent update, to 2019). All the info is stored in a micro SD card. Ihaven’t used it on my Fiat yet, but have fixed many coworkers vehicles. Igot it when it first came out and my Snap-On guy had them at a blowoutintroductory price (almost at wholesale).I think the only aftermarket system is the Leonardo scanner for theseexotics (still, at five figures $, if I remember correctly). This is one of the reasons why I wouldn’t want to own a “modern” Ferrari...If my scanner could read them, then I’d consider it.PeterSent from Mail<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=550986> for Windows10________________________________From: Ferrari <ferrari-bounces+dino308gt4=hotmail.com [at] ferrarilist.com> onbehalf of Erik Nielsen <judge4re [at] gmail.com>Sent: Monday, May 27, 2019 5:12:50 AMTo: PeterGT4Cc: The FerrariListSubject: Re: [Ferrari] My first check engine light on the 575Nope.But when you said you needed to bring it in to clear it, I figured it threwone of the propriety codes.
