Yes, that one and it does unscrew, but the wrench flats are behind that sensor body, flanked by the base of the oil filter and it’s next to impossible to get a wrench on there. Even a crowsfoot wrench won’t fit. If you spin it by that body, it just wrecks the diaphragm inside, rendering it inoperable, or making it inaccurate.

As Hans mentioned, it’s no big deal to remove the base – the hose comes off and three M8 nuts. What’s more concerning is the paper gasket.

Another reason why I use Hylomar on my gaskets. They peel off without that risk of the gasket tearing.

Friends,

Isnt that the small gold sensor below the oil filter. I thought it just unscrewed???

That is the easier way to do it. I tried to replace mine with the base still on the block and it was too difficult and time consuming. There isn’t much room even for a crowsfoot wrench in there. Much like the 288 GTO, I am contemplating setting it up as a remote mount (using a high-pressure flex line). Not that this is an item that fails regularly, but my biggest fear is getting gasket material down into the oil passageway...

I’ll have the opportunity when my engine comes out in the near future.

If you can see the difference with your headlights in the daytime, then it’s an improvement (and obviously your originals were on their way out)!

I think he had to take the oil filter base assembly out. I didn’t ask but I had brought all the parts necessary, my mechanic does not mind if I bring all the parts, including the gasket for the oil filter base assembly and he used every thing I had brought. Only the wire for the oil light switch (this was still working but I thought I should change it too) came back. I guess he decided the old one was still good enough

I tested the headlights in daytime and I can see a huge difference.

That’s great. Really, anything will be better than your previous headlights.

That’s also great news about your oil pressure switch. I suppose he was able to remove and replace it without removing the oil filter base assembly?

Well I’ve made my decision. PHILIPS 6014 was my choice. I walked into a car parts store looking for male-female connectors and bang, right in front of me sitting on a shelf, 2 PHILIPS 6014 headlamps for $15.85 cad each. They looked exactly like the original. So, why not ? I know many of you suggested major upgrades, but at that price, what have I got to loose ?

I have had the car for 19 years, just hoping these new headlights last a<philips-6014.jpeg> few years.

On another subject, my mechanic changed the oil pressure switch. Remember ? I talked about not having oil pressure the last time I drove it last fall. It came back the first few times I drove it this spring and then no oil pressure again. Now all is fine.
