True, on the expense side.  But scarcity just keeps growing.  So many of the Merlin/Griffon blocks were grenaded during the days they were used in unlimited hydroplanes.  What little working stock is around is hoarded/controlled by Roush.  The German company (makes leopard engines) that was going to cast blocks for Rolls (nee VW), backed out when those who don't "have to worry about expenses".... did.

At the expense and scarcity of a Merlin or Griffon, I think that would be an awesome idea... GE Catalyst, Garmin cockpit, IFR, real environmental control, Sarasota GWX 75R 10” in a drop tank...  huh??!

I have a copy of that 308 V12 conversion manual.

It was feasible back then as the donor V-12 engines were “reasonably” priced. Now though, it wouldn’t make sense. There was a Daytona V-12 engine for sale on Hemmings a few months ago – used as a display piece, so who knows why it was taken out of a car – and they were asking  $110K...

Although, it’s a great reference for the process and could be adapted using a modern 12 (like from a 456 or 550).

The hot rod BB reminded me of this car.

I hadn’t read the article in years...

400hp and they kept the weight down to 3140 lbs.
