"Back in the day" ---- when I subscribed to most of the major car magazines, they had some actual trained drivers. I'm talking early -90's and before. "Dyno" Don Sherman, and Patrick Bedard for example. Bedard had raced in a few Indy 500s. I'd say that should qualify one to evaluate cars at high speed. Road and Track employed a few top drivers, but I'm not sure how many of them actually did the road tests. Phil Hill did some. Oh, wait. I guess he is "just a journalist." As was Paul Frere. And Innes Ireland. As for currently... I really don't know as I no longer subscribe. Perhaps the talent pool has deteriorated. Hans.
