Ha! You joke, but that car had in-car video in 1989 WAY before in-car video was even a thing.

 

I took a portable VHS player with a 4” fold-up monitor apart and integrated it into that Corvette. The 4” monitor went in the right side of the dash where all the dummy lights normally were above the stock radio. I reduced the size of the dummy lights down and did custom LEDs behind them. The VHS player I was able to build into the big padded driver’s side knee bolster under the steering column. Worked great and blew everyone away at the time.

 

When I was making trips back and forth to SC from college in Virginia I used to have a big grocery sack full of VHS movies on the passenger seat to help pass the 7 hour drive. Obviously I wasn’t “watching” watching, but I found movies kept me awake better than music after a while.

 

Wish I had more pics, but that was back when cell phones weren’t even bag phones yet – they still had to be permanently installed. And that car had that too.  😊

Hans, I was just going to say that your use of those compartments sounds perfectly reasonable.

 

CG's says he had subwoofers in one iteration of his '85 but I wouldn't be surprised if V1.0 and V1.1 involved a Betamax player or a pizza oven back there.

 

His car was a rolling power station...
