Actually the AIM-120D model is pretty damn good its got legs

Right around 80 miles not as long as the -54

No, AIM-120 is the 348 of BVRAAM ordnance.  <grin>  I never saw one.

We carried the Phoenix (AIM-54)  bigger, faster, longer range.  Which was our Fox 3, guns moved to 4

But the Libyan SU-22s were taken down with short range sidewinders - Fox 2  ;-)

They tried again years later with MiG 23s, but as soon as the AWG-9 went Nose Hot, they ran.
