To me, the beauty of these cars is their #1 attribute so I actually do care about how it looks. I can be lazy too but, really, my biggest hurdle is getting over the fear of screwing something up. I know what I don't know and what I am not good at. I don't know much about car detailing and I am sloppy when I work.

The supplier of FK1000 has changed the name/number to BWM100 (I
think....) for some reason. It's labeled as "High Temperature Paste
Wax" and is used for coating molds for low temp metal casting.
Developed in Germany, I believe. Someone wondered "What would happen
if I smeared some on my car?" Anyway, it has a small cult following.
It's a bit of a PITA to use - well, not more so than most paste waxes
I guess. But I use it on my 2 daily drivers because it lasts at least
6 months on outdoor stored cars and I detest waxing them on a regular
basis. I have a sticky fine tree sap mist that falls in the area of
my driveway and makes unprotected paint feel like sandpaper. But
nothing sticks to this wax. I don't even get anal about removing bird
droppings or bug splats right away.
Also, I've been washing with Wolfgang SiO2 Coating Wash. It's crazy
expensive, but the SiO2 content beads water like nothing I've ever
seen. Highly self-washing, meaning that a good rainstorm will clean
the car by itself for months after an initial Wolfgang wash. Even
works well on the windshield, sort of like RainX except much longer
lasting.
The common thread here is that I'm lazy and want the best results with
the absolute least effort. So one day each in the spring and fall
waxing, and then just a couple of washes in between is all I'm willing
to do. I only do this to protect the paint from sap, birds,
waterspots, etc. I'm not really into it for the "show and shine"
aspect.
Hans.
