Re: [NFC] Porsche's return to F1?...

The new breed of F1 fans are only there because of the show on Netflix.

The ticket holders of this short attention span theater are like watching a little kids’ soccer game.  There is an active group voraciously whacking away at the ball until it pops out and rolls 35 feet away.  The mass of swinging feet then convenes on the ball in its new location… until it pops out and the hive moves again.  Meanwhile 2 kids are picking their nose, one is eating a bug and the straggler is biting their tongue trying to tie his/her shoe.

When Netflix starts a series on bull riding, they’ll all move to rodeos and F1 will be forgotten.   The troublemakers who had been screaming about how the car exhaust was killing the planet will then start barking about cruelty to animals… oh, and the lack of Paraplegic cowgirls.

Good point but Porsche already sells enough cars to Car People.

Maybe they are trying to get their brand in front of non-Car People?

The new age of F1 fans like racing and not necessarily cars in general.

Those people don't have a Porsche...yet!

Yeah, but you know how much it costs to race in F1? How many millions upon millions did Toyota spend to win how many races? Does the average person know they ever raced in F1 and does it really matter to them? I know the adage “it takes money to make money” but I don’t see what kind of gain they can make here. Besides, endurance racing was always Porsche’s forte.

They are seeing the atmospheric rise in F1 popularity and want the marketing exposure.

Not surprising...

jalopnik.com - the stars might be aligning for porsche's return to f1

And is this going to make any kind of difference to the way F1 plays out? Is it going to bring better/more competition, or just throwing good money away? Is it really the best venue to showcase their technical prowess?
