As bad as Ferraris are for deferred maintenance issues, you never want to skip out on any on an aircraft.

De Vries was instrument rated and his passenger was a flight instructor. They were in one of the easiest (I.e., least demanding) planes to pilot. IMO they somehow were dealt a very bad hand.
